The Notre Dame Fighting Irish got some good news and some bad news on Wednesday night. The good news is that Markus Burton isn’t out for the rest of the season with a knee injury. The bad news is that he’s not coming back all that soon.

In fact, it’s not clear when Burton will be back.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish basketball team announced on Wednesday night that Burton will be “week-to-week” with the injury. “We are thankful that Markus will be back this season at full strength,” Irish head coach Micah Shrewsberry said in a statement. “I have the full faith in our athletic trainer, Nixon Dorvilien, and our entire medical staff to put Markus in the best position to return to the court when it is the right time.”

The star guard also issued a statement about how proud he is of his Irish teammates.

“I couldn’t be more proud of how my teammates competed following my injury, and I know they will pick me up and continue to play well. I look forward to supporting them in any way possible,” Burton said. “As in everything I do in basketball, I will attack my rehab and give it my best to get back on the floor at full strength as soon as possible.”

The first full game without Markus Burton is certainly going to be a tough one. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish basketball team takes on Houston late Wednesday night in Las Vegas.
