One day after Notre Dame landed its first Transfer Portal addition, head coach Micah Shrewsberry has his second. With the addition of Ethan Roberts, it's also the first reinforcement that the Fighting Irish have added to a backcourt that includes the loss of Markus Burton.
Roberts joins former Winthrop big man Logan Duncomb in what will be a reshaped starting five in 2026. The former guard at Penn announced Thursday his commitment to complete a graduate transfer to Notre Dame for his final season of NCAA eligibility. Roberts, a 6-foot-5 guard, spent one season each at Army and Drake before spending the last two seasons at Penn.
Roberts averaged 16.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game across 48 games the past two seasons at Penn. He shot 41.6% from the field, 38.4% from beyond the arc, and 80.8% from the free throw line. It's clear that in the first two portal additions, Notre Dame is looking far and wide for bonavie scorers that will also give the Fighting Irish options if one scorer gets shut down.

Ethan Roberts gives Notre Dame basketball its second portal addition in two days
The Irish will definitely need as many scoring threats as they can land, both in the frontcourt and backcourt. The departures of Burton, Jalen Haralson, and Cole Certa, among others, mean the team needs to replace a lot of offensive production.
With the addition of Roberts and Duncomb, Notre Dame currently has a projected roster of 11 players, including three walk-ons, for the 2026-27 season. The head coach is working to replenish the roster beyond that portal duo.
