With the Notre Dame Fighting Irish football team's spring practice session officially over, the Blue-Gold game brought mostly good news as it allowed some players to show out heading into the summer and fall. However, there was at least one piece of bad news and the lack of clarity around freshman safety Joey O'Brien's injury is making some ND fans nervous.
O'Brien left the Blue-Gold game early, and he needed help to do it. Later in the scrimmage, the young defender was spotted standing on the sidelines on a pair of crutches. Freeman did not meet with the media after the final practice of the spring session, so there was no explanation on what happened to O'Brien.
Monday came and went, too, and there is still no official word from the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on just what injury the young safety has. Hopefully, it will not stretch very far into the rest of the spring and summer. What Joey O'Brien showed in the spring practice session was a guy who could make a difference in the fall as a true freshman. Assuming he's healthy.
