Former Notre Dame Fighting Irish defensive coordinator Mike Elko already has a win over his former team this season. It seems unlikely that he forgot that, given that it's a big victory.
And yet, for some reason, Elko felt the need to throw a bit of shade at Marcus Freeman and Co. when he was previewing his own team's game this weekend. It's, of course, possible he didn't mean to do it, but still, saying that Florida has the most talent of any team Texas A&M has played this year seems at the very least seems to dismiss the Fighting Irish.
Notre Dame women's basketball score massive commitment in Jacy Abii
While Marcus Freeman and Co. were busy dealing with Boise State, women's basketball coach Niele Ivey got herself a considerable talent.
Jacy Abii, the No. 12 recruit and top player in Texas, Ivey, and the Fighting Irish over UCLA, Tennessee, Texas, and LSU, among many, many others.
"It's more than basketball -- it's faith, family, and a place where I'm seen as more than just a basketball player," Abii told ESPN. "From the moment I stepped on campus, I felt the love, the opportunity, and the calling to be part of something bigger than myself. I'm blessed to call Notre Dame home."
More Notre Dame Fighting Irish news
- While the Irish got Leonard Moore back for Boise State, and he had a huge day, they lost another defensive back in Devonta Smith. He's been ruled out for North Carolina State.
- Speaking of Moore, in a recent episode of the PFF College podcast, the two hosts had a massive amount of praise for the sophomore corner. In fact, they both believe he could be a Top 5 pick in the 2027 NFL Draft.
- Notre Dame football head coach Marcus Freeman took a moment on Monday to make it clear he knows there are some things bigger than sports. NC State defensive coordinator DJ Eliot's daughter, Drue, passed away last month due to cancer. "I think it's important that hopefully he knows and his family knows they're in the prayers and thoughts of everybody, especially mine," Freeman said.
- Freeman also talked briefly about the idea circulating around college sports about doing away with redshirts and instead going to a five-year plan to play five seasons. Freeman doesn't appear to be a fan considering he said he doesn't want to waste a player's year. He added that he wants to do what's best for the player.
- As for the Wolfpack game itself, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish are heavy favorites so far this week. When the lines updated on Sunday morning, they were listed as 21.5-point favorites over North Carolina State.
