The Notre Dame Fighting Irish football team has been on such a recruiting tear that it’s always a bit of a surprise when Marcus Freeman and Co. don’t come away the winners. However, in the form of 2028 quarterback Kingston Preyear, the Golden Domers are officially out of the running. At least for now.

Preyear announced the three teams he’s still considering committing to, and all three are SEC schools. In addition to three finalists, the Montgomery, Alabama, product, rated as the No. 44 overall player and No. 4 quarterback in his class according to the 247Sports Composite, now has a commitment date. On July 10, he’ll pick either Alabama, Florida, or Vanderbilt.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish were once considered a frontrunner for his services; however, the commitment of New Jersey quarterback Tray Tagliaferri might have essentially closed the door on the Irish competing for Preyear. In the process, they’re losing out on a very talented gunslinger who, as a sophomore, threw for 3,026 yards, 34 touchdowns, and just 5 interceptions. He also totaled 518 yards and 2 more touchdowns on the ground.

Former Notre Dame quarterback wants to face his old squad in the College Football Playoff

Kenny Minchey spent three years with the Notre Dame football team, serving as a good soldier and doing everything asked of him. However, once CJ Carr won the quarterback battle between the two last fall, and it became clear he was the QB of the present and the future, Minchey moved on to Kentucky via the transfer portal. Earlier this month, he offered a message to his former teammates and, in the process, showed he had no hard feelings.

Unless we play them in the playoffs, I hope he goes out and kills it,” Minchey said about Carr and Notre Dame. “I hope the whole team does. I’m excited to be able to tune in and watch some of their games whenever we’re not playing because I still have a bunch of buddies there who are hoping to have a really good season.”

He’s ranked only behind Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith, who got a 99 rating.
  • There's just a month to go until the Notre Dame Fighting Irish get together to start fall camp and prepare for the regular season. Ahead of that season opener, quarterback CJ Carr is impressing analysts at the Manning Passing Academy. "CJ Carr had one of the smoothest throwing motions among the quarterbacks. He uses his base well, and there’s not a lot of wasted movement," On3 analyst Wilson Alexander reportedly wrote. "There was an efficiency to his mechanics that stood out."
