Notre Dame has plenty of players on its roster among the best in the country, but few are more universally respected than defensive back Leonard Moore. That is especially true with the impending release of EA Sports College Football 27, as Moore has already generated plenty of hype ahead of the latest version of the video game. Now it turns out his in-game rating makes him the highest-rated DB in the country.
Leading up to the game's launch, developer Electronic Arts has released bits and pieces about what is in the game. Those tidbits include the top-ranked players at every position. When it comes to defensive backs, Moore is the top-ranked player in the game with an overall rating of 97. The rating also makes the Irish corner the second-highest-rated player among more than 9,000 currently in the game.
Moore was rated as a 96 overall in College Football 26. Now, in EA Sports College Football 27, he improved by one point and held his spot as Notre Dame's best defensive player. He’s also the only player in the top five outside the SEC, and the only player in the top seven not in the SEC or the Big Ten.
Who does Leonard Moore have the honor of being rated higher than in all of college football? The list is unsurprisingly impressive at the defensive back position, especially:
Leonard Moore earns top defensive back rating in EA Sports College Football 27
- Notre Dame’s Leonard Moore: 97
- Texas Tech’s Brice Pollock: 93
- Alabama’s Zabien Brown: 92
- Oregon’s Brandon Finney Jr: 91
- Mississippi State’s Kelley Jones: 91
- Indiana’s Jamari Sharpe: 91
- Michigan’s Jyaire Hill: 91
- USC’s Jontez Williams: 91
- Georgia’s Ellis Robinson: 90
- BYU’s Evan Johnson: 90
It’s not just impressive that Moore’s the top-ranked defensive back and the second-ranked player behind only Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smit’s 99 rating, but by just how much the Fighting Irish defender beats out the next-highest-rated player at his position.
Moore is rated a full four points ahead of Pollock, but the other nine players are all separated by just three points. The step down from one spot to another is never more than one rating point.
Of course, when all is said and done, Leonard Moore’s rating in a video game doesn’t prove or lead to anything. However, it does double down on the respect the defensive back has received during his career. The respect even comes from Smith. The Buckeye wideout recently called Moore the best defensive back he’s ever played against.
The Notre Dame defensive back can take all that respect and build on it both on the real field and in the game when the season kicks off in just a few months.
