While the Notre Dame Fighting Irish lacrosse season hasn’t gone quite as well as the program had hoped, it still has some of the most talented players in the country. That was underlined again on Thursday when Chris Kavanagh was named a finalist for the sport’s highest individual honor, Tewaaraton Award.

Being a finalist has become a Kavanagh family tradition over the years. The Fighting Irish are certainly going to rue the day when they’re no more Kavanaghs are part of the lineup.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish now have had eight Tewaaraton finalists in program history and five of them were Kavanaghs. This is Chris’ first, his brother Pat got the honor three times (2024, 2023 & 202) and won the award in 2024. Matt Kavanagh was also a finalist in 2015. The winner of this year’s award will be announced on May 29.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish honoring rosters

Earlier this week, the House vs NCAA settlement took another turn when an amended filing proposed that schools be allowed to keep their football roster over the 105 player limit that was supposed to go into effect this fall. Notre Dame was the first school to say they would take advantage of this part of the agreement.

That’s newsworthy because the proposed language says the school can go over the 105 limit, but only if they want to. AD Pete Bevacqua is indeed saying they will. Now it’s a matter of the proposal being accepted and official by the judge. That won’t happen until late next week or possibly the week after.

Owen Strebig's teammate gets an offer

One of the best prospects in Notre Dame’s 2025 class might be seeing a former teammate join him in South Bend. Earlier this week, Marcus Freeman and company offered Isaac Miller. The 3-star lineman plays at Catholic Memorial in Waukesha, Wisconsin and could join the Irish as part of the 2027 class.

Georgia getting in the way

While the Notre Dame Fighting Irish have been on a roll recruiting wise, they’re now worried that the Georgia Bulldogs might steal a commit. Kirby Smart has come calling for Thomas Davis Jr. His father was an All-American Bulldog so the SEC power could be a problem.
