Notre Dame football doesn’t appear interested in giving rival programs even the smallest opening with Abraham Sesay. Marcus Freeman and Charlie Partridge visited the five-star commit during the bye week, and Partridge sticking around after Sesay’s early injury reinforced exactly why the Irish have built such a strong bond with him.

Last week, during the bye, Irish coaches went on the recruiting trail, and they didn’t just visit those they are working to get to commit. They also visited players like Sesay. Both Marcus Freeman and defensive line coach Charlie Partridge went to Sesay’s high school, and Partridge even stuck around to watch a game.

The level of personal contact the Notre Dame coaches made with Sesay left an impression. If he wasn’t already committed, it’s likely this would have sealed the deal.

“It means so much,” Sesay recently told On3 analyst Mike Singer. “My night was ended early due to a minor injury, but for (Partridge) to continue to stay and watch is incredible.”

It’s not hard to understand why the Notre Dame coaches are working so hard to make sure that Sesay stays in the fold.

On Friday, the Navy All-American Bowl Road to the Dome tour will visit Downingtown East High School in Exton, Pennsylvania, to recognize Sesay as a 2027 Navy All-American. Downingtown East High School will honor Sesay before classmates, teammates, family, and friends during a school-wide pep rally.

Sesay has already committed to play in the annual East vs. West matchup inside the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, at 1 pm on Saturday, January 9, 2027. That game will put the final touches on an impressive high school career.

Sesay is a 5-star edge rusher in the 2027 recruiting class. The 6-foot-4½, 225-pound defensive end committed to Notre Dame on June 16, 2026, choosing the Fighting Irish over LSU, Florida State, Duke, and Penn State after a recruitment that included offers from many of the nation’s top programs. Those offers included Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, LSU, Michigan, Nebraska, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Oregon, Tennessee, USC, Virginia, and Wisconsin, among many others.

As a junior, Sesay tallied 89 tackles and 13 sacks and earned first-team all-state honors at defensive end, as well as first-team all-league and all-county recognition at both defensive end and tight end.

Sesay is one of two 5-star commits in Notre Dame’s 2027 class alongside Oluwasemilore Olubobola.
