When talking about Notre Dame football running backs, Jeremiyah Love gets the most mentions. Then it's Jadarian Price or Gi'Bran Payne. Sophomore running back Aneyas Williams tends to get forgotten in these conversations; however, the talented do-it-all back wants people to come away from 2025 remembering his name.

The Irish have a chance to make a statement this season. There are already analysts who believe Notre Dame has set the standard for running back rooms. If Williams can improve on his nearly 400 total yards last year, then one has to assume the team will have one of the best, most explosive offenses in all of college football.

Aneyas Williams targets a bigger Notre Dame football share after nearly 400 all-purpose yards as a freshman

For Williams, the biggest key to improving on a solid freshman season is getting more comfortable. "It’s a sense of belonging knowing you can do this," the Notre Dame football running back said. "For the longest time, I was telling myself you're just a freshman. I think getting rid of that mindset this year and knowing I did this last year, I can pick it up and do it at a higher percent this year."

In this era of college football, someone who returns to the same team despite being 3rd or 4th on the depth chart is a bit of a unicorn experience. However, Williams likes the idea that his touches in 2024 have already made him an old hand in certain ways.

"I would just say the mentality I came with this year is just better. Last year was just a growth mindset and this year I am just very comfortable. I am just looking to build off what I did last year and having a better sense of awareness. I just want to be a vet. Play more like a vet."

One of the most interesting storylines around the Notre Dame football team this season will be how offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock best uses all the talent the Irish have stockpiled. If he can find the right mix, the sky is the limit.
