The Notre Dame football program is once again adjusting to the times with what Athletic Director Pete Bevacqua called a "Departmentwide Reorganization." To better handle the new era of revenue share and NIL, Bevacqua appointed Ron Powlus as the program's first COO.

In addition to Powlus’ promotion, the Fighting Irish now have Garrett Chapman as the Deputy Athletics Director overseeing the financial division. Meanwhile, Katie Capps is now the senior associate athletics director and senior woman administrator in waiting.

“The college athletics ecosystem is changing at the fastest rate in its history and this reorganization will give us the best opportunity to continue to provide an authentic and rewarding Notre Dame student-athlete experience,” Bevacqua said in a recent statement announcing the reorganization. “Moving Ron (Powlus) into the COO role will bring the amazing leadership that he’s consistently exhibited with our football program to the entire athletic department. I couldn’t be more excited to see how Ron leads his new divisions and how our new executive leadership team coalesces and moves us into the future at full speed.”

Notre Dame football is reorganizing to handle revenue share and NIL more aggressively.

In the position of COO, Powlus will keep the responsibilities he had before Thursday but adds sports performance, internal operations, equipment, and facilities to his purview. Chapman's new role as chief financial strategist aligns fiscal planning with the University's priorities and strengthens its position in the evolving intercollegiate athletics landscape.

Pete Bevacqua has been proactive in keeping Notre Dame ahead of the game in this new era. He's worked closely with Marcus Freeman in a way that's got the football team poised for its first National Title since 1988. This new reorgnization is the latest step in staying ahead of the curve.
