Notre Dame battling Big Ten powers for elite monster offensive tackle

Notre Dame football is still in this fight, and the June visit could be the swing moment.

The Notre Dame football team is working hard to reel in another Top 10 group for the 2027 recruiting class. Should Marcus Freeman and Co. pull that off, Cameron Wagner could be one of the biggest steals of the cycle. Of course, in order to win the battle for the 4-star offensive tackle, the Fighting Irish will need to beat back a trio of Big Ten powers.

On Wednesday, Wagner announced the final four teams he's considering a commitment to. In addition to the Irish, the St. Joseph-Ogden (Saint Joseph, IL) offensive lineman named Illinois, Wisconsin, and Oregon.

Notre Dame locks in official visit with Cameron Wagner

Notre Dame's toughest competition for Cameron Wagner would appear to be the Fighting Illini. The OT, who is ranked as a top 10 prospect in the state in the Class of 2027, received his Illini offer in June 2024 and has made the short trip from St. Joseph to Champaign regularly for unofficial visits the past two years.

In addition to his final four, Wagner laid out his plans for official visits. He'll start his final go-round from May 29-31 at Wisconsin before taking his official visit to Illinois from June 5-7.

Wagner wraps up visits with Notre Dame in June

Oregon is up next on June 12-14. The Ducks are Wagner's most recent offer, and he's made multiple trips to Dan Lanning's home turf in the past 2 1/2 months. Wagner's final official visit will be from June 19-21 at Notre Dame. The Irish have had him visit for several unofficial visits as well, so Marcus Freeman and his staff are far from out of the running.

Wagner currently ranks as the No. 22 offensive tackle nationally, per Rivals, while 247Sports has him No. 30 at his position. The 6-foot-6, 305-pound lineman is the top-ranked player in Illinois at his position.

Notre Dame has taken some recruiting hits over the last few weeks, including losing out on its top quarterback recruits to schools like Florida and Michigan. Nailing Cameron Wagner down would be a massive win and get the Fighting Irish back on track.
