Notre Dame may be one day away from a massive double recruiting win on May Day

A quiet April could give way to a huge May start if Notre Dame football closes on two major targets at once.

The Notre Dame football team could begin May on one heck of a hot streak if two expected commitments play out the way they're supposed to play out. With. Wonderful "Champ" Monds IV and Aidan O'Neill both choosing their schools on May 1, Marcus Freeman and Co. could land two top players in one day.

Monds, a 4-star quarterback who is the son of the famed Nebraska quarterback (for his name, if nothing else), recently received a prediction to choose the Fighting Irish. However, on Friday, the gunslinger will officially choose between the Golden Domers, Florida State and Ohio State.

O'Neill, a 4-star defensive end out of Don Bosco Prep, is also considered a heavy lean to Notre Dame. On the same day that the defender announced he was committing on Friday, both Steve Wiltfong and Allen Trieu of On3 entered predictions for the Irish.

O'Neil essentially tipped his hand on where he's committing earlier this spring when he said he felt at home in South Bend. "I had a great time. Their hospitality was great. I felt very welcomed there, and I felt like I belonged."

It might feel like a foregone conclusion for Freeman to haul in the EDGE, but O'Neill is officially choosing between the Fighting Irish, Kentucky and Penn State.

Should Friday play out the way it's looking right now, Notre Dame is picking a mighty fine way to start the month of May. April was mostly quiet on the recruiting front, despite several unofficial visits. Things could heat up quickly when Aidan O'Neill and Champ Monds make their picks on May 1.
