Entering the season, Notre Dame football quarterback CJ Carr's hype was so big that one analyst tipped him as a potential Heisman finalist. After Carr and Co. trounced the Arkansas Razorbacks on Saturday, another analyst believes Carr might be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2027 NFL Draft.
"I am not a NFL Draft expert," Dan Wetzel wrote on Twitter. "And this is just his fourth game, but based on his accuracy, touch, athleticism, and reading of defenses, it would not surprise me if Notre Dame’s CJ Carr was the first overall pick in 2027."
Notre Dame football's CJ Carr gets mention as No. 1 NFL Draft Pick
When one commenter challenged Wetzel for making such an interesting announcement following a blowout win over an Arkansas team that seems to be spinning out, the analyst was clear that he wasn't basing it on one game or overrating performance over a bad team. "He’s been good. It’s the accuracy that stands out to me."
Carr did have the best game of his young career against the Razorbacks. He completed 73.3% of his passes for 354 yards and 4 TDs to no interceptions. On the season, he's now completed 68.3% of his pass attempts for 1,091 yards, 9 TDs, and just 2 INTs.
Carr has impressed all onlookers, especially with his poise in the pocket and his ability to recognize defenses so early in his college career. The Notre Dame football team's offense in general absolutely hasn't been the reason why it lost its first two games of the year and after the last three games, it feels like it will be a juggernaut for the rest of the season.
