Marcus Freeman has become a regular presence in Deandre Bidden's recruitment, and that has definitely stood out for the future of the 2028 Michigan wide receiver. Bidden and Freeman speak every time the Notre Dame staff talks to the prospect, with the latest conversation being earlier this week.
Freeman keeping a very open line to Bidden is working quite well. It's clear that the talented pass catcher has noticed how often the head coach speaks with him. It seems like Bidden doesn't see that with some of the other coaches who are recruiting him hard.
"That's my guy, man," Bidden told Irish Sports Daily of the Notre Dame head coach. "Knowing the head coach likes me, building a relationship with that guy is great because that guy is a great coach."
Bidden is a 4-star wide receiver in the 2028 recruiting class. The 6-foot-1, 175-pound receiver plays for Harper Woods High School in Harper Woods, Michigan. Bidden also plays cornerback for the Pioneers and has developed into one of the highest-ranked prospects in Michigan’s 2028 class.
Marcus Freeman’s direct involvement boosts Notre Dame football with 4-star Deandre Bidden
Bidden is ranked as the No. 22 player in the 2028 class and the No. 6 player at his position according to the latest 247Sports Composite rankings.
Bidden has already racked up nearly 30 scholarship offers other than Notre Dame. His offer list includes Alabama, Auburn, Boston College, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, LSU, Louisville, Miami, Michigan, Michigan State, Mississippi State, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio State, Oregon, Penn State, Tennessee, Texas, USC, Vanderbilt, and Wisconsin, among others.
The versatile athlete hopes to return to Notre Dame for the Fighting Irish’s November 7 game against Miami, though the trip depends on his high school's playoff schedule. If he makes the trip, it would be his third visit to South Bend. Beyond that, he has no other visits planned. He plans to narrow his recruitment heading into 2027, take official visits in the spring, and decide on a college after those trips.
At one point, Notre Dame seemed like a long shot for the standout athlete, but Bidden's spring visit and his return for the Michigan State game changed that, and contact has only intensified since according to Irish Sports Daily.
As a sophomore at Harper Woods in 2025, Bidden accumulated approximately 800 all-purpose yards and scored 14 total touchdowns. That performance followed a breakout freshman season in 2024, when he caught 32 passes for 700 yards and 11 touchdowns.
With Bidden saying he wants to see Notre Dame beat Miami and show some explosive plays on offense, the November 7 game, if he can make it, could be a big factor in his recruitment and preferences.
