Notre Dame and Miami have squared off against several recruits in the 2027 cycle. Now they might be facing off for Jaylen Addai, one of the best players in the 2028 recruiting class. As the 5-star wide receiver starts to narrow down the teams he's considering, it seems as though the Fighting Irish and Hurricanes could end up being one of the teams to score some serious bragging rights.
According to On3's Sam Spiegelman, Addai logged visits to Miami and Notre Dame this spring, and both programs have cemented themselves as contenders for the elite 2028 prospect. However, they are not the only contenders just yet. The wide receiver has so many power schools coming after him that he'll certainly get to take as many unofficial visits as he can handle.
While Addai is expected to visit Texas and Texas A&M, as well as Alabama and Ohio State, Notre Dame has established itself as a real contender for the player who is the No. 9 overall, No. 3 wide receiver and No. 1 player in Texas according to the 247Sports Composite and the No. 10, No. 3 wide receiver and No. 1 player in the state according to the Rivals Industry Rankings.
In addition to Notre Dame and Miami, the talented wideout has offers from Baylor, Grambling, Houston, LSU, Maryland, Mississippi State, Nebraska, Ole Miss, Sacramento State, SMU, Texas A&M, Texas State, Texas Tech, Tulsa, UTSA, Vanderbilt, and others. Considering how he's already moved up the ranks, it's a safe bet there won't be a school out there that isn't interested in seeing if they can get their foot in the door.

Jaylen Addai has Notre Dame football leaning on another familiar recruiting formula
If Jaylen Addai's name is ringing a bell, that's because you might have heard of his father, Joseph Addai, a star running back at LSU, a former first-round pick, and Super Bowl champion with the Indianapolis Colts. This is a possible hidden weapon up Notre Dame's sleeve.
Over the last few recruiting cycles, the Fighting Irish have brought in a ton of sons of NFL stars. Devin Fitzgerald (Larry Fitzgerald), Jerome Bettis Jr., and Elijah Burress (Plaxico Burress) have all signed with Marcus Freeman and Co. in the last few years. They're also hot on the heels of Julius Jones Jr, the son of the famed Notre Dame and Dallas Cowboys running back.
For now, the younger Addai might look a little undersized at 5-foot-11, but it's worth noting he just wrapped up his sophomore season. He's also still got long limbs that let him haul in almost anything that comes his way. In the 2025 season, he tallied 37 receptions for 779 yards (21.1 yards per carry) and 14 touchdowns.
An explosive young receiver with the athletic upside and polish to project as a high-level Power Four playmaker, Addai flashes easy acceleration and separation from defensive backs and boasts some serious run-after-catch ability in space. He's also someone, despite not being blessed with great height, who is very, very good at basketball. For a team like Notre Dame, that might be extremely interesting.
