Draft Day is officially here. After a long lead-up from the offseason to now, where Notre Dame star running back Jeremiyah Love is predicted to go has changed quite a bit. However, according to almost every NFL Mock Draft published in the last few days, the Arizona Cardinals' GM is walking around the facility with a little sticky note that says "Jeremiyah Love, no matter what."
ESPN analyst Mel Kiper was one of the first draft experts to predict the Irish star would go as high as No. 3, and then a firestorm erupted. The issue, according to several analysts, is that the Cards have too many things wrong to use a Top 3 pick on a running back, since that position no longer offers the ROI it used to.
NFL Analysts don't love the Notre Dame football star to the Arizona Cardinals
Some analysts even penned missives begging Arizona not to take the Notre Dame star. Not because they thought Jeremiyah Love wasn't worth it, but simply because it looked like a knee-jerk reaction that was more about headlines than about improving the team.
While there were many protest articles about Love and Arizona, they didn't seem to move the needle. Almost every single NFL Mock Draft released in the last 24 hours says the same thing. At this point, if Jeremiyah Love isn't selected at No.3 on Thursday night, it's only because the Arizona Cardinals no longer hold the pick.
Jeremiyah Love is too good to pass up
The Athletic is the latest Mock to explain why the former Fighting Irish running back will likely go to a team with so many issues:
"We can debate whether the Cardinals are at the right point in their roster construction to take this type of swing. But on the other side of that coin, they have a chance to add arguably the best player in the draft — and a weapon who would make a greater impact than anyone else they could take here."
Should the former Notre Dame star go that high, it would be the first time in a decade, as Jeremiyah Love would join Saquon Barkley as the last running backs to be Top 3 selections in the NFL Draft.
