The Notre Dame football team is on a massive run recruiting-wise. One of the commits Marcus Freeman and his coaches just scored demonstrated exactly why their recent run is so important. It's not just about getting players with a lot of stars. It's about scoring players like Joey O'Brien, who are genuinely talented. The 4-star defensive back, one of the top players in Pennsylvania, recently demonstrated his dominance when he absolutely shined on the first day of the Rivals camp he participated in.

The 6-foot, 3-inch and 185-pound star was named by On3 as the No. 3 performer of Tuesday’s session, the top defensive back on the list. He's the No. 5 safety and No. 40 player in the country, according to On3 Industry rankings, and he once again showed how he earned those ratings going up against some of the other best players in his class.

While O'Brien was the No. 3 player on the list, two Ohio State commits in defensive lineman Khary Wilder and offensive lineman Sam Greer were No. 1 and No. 2 at the camp.

Interestingly enough, another Irish target in quarterback Teddy Jarrard, was No. 4 on the list, right behind O'Brien. It's also interesting to note that several of the top performers from the Rivals camp remain uncommitted.

Onlookers said some of the reasons the Notre Dame football commit stood out so well at the camp was because he showed the long speed to stay in phase with every receiver he faced during 1-on-1s. He also showcased his ball-hawking tendencies, which make him someone who could eventually step into the shoes of Xavier Watts and Kyle Hamilton. O’Brien came down with multiple interceptions during 1-on-1s. There were also pass breakups against CJ Sadler and LSU commit Kenny Darby.
