The Notre Dame football team's season didn't start the way anyone hoped, with a loss to the Miami Hurricanes. However, news from one of its top running back commits, Jonaz Walton, should help blunt the pain.
Walton committed to the Irish earlier this spring, but that hasn't kept other teams from coming calling early and often. However, the 4-star back out of Georgia has been insistent that he's not looking elsewhere. He's been so insistent, in fact, that it appears other schools are giving up.
Top 2026 RB Jonaz Walton says he’s done with recruiting, fully locked in with Notre Dame football
"I don't really have other schools hitting me up," Walton recently told On3's Mike Singer about his Notre Dame football pledge. "Even if they were, I wouldn't respond. I'm not interested in any other school."
That's fantastic news for the Fighting Irish. He's one of the big gets for a 2026 class that's at the top of the country. That he remains devoted to ND and is having the kind of senior season he is, it's even better news.
Walton has logged 31 carries, 288 yards, and 2 touchdowns so far this season, while adding 12 catches, 198 receiving yards, and 3 scores as a pass catcher out of the backfield. He's also spent some time on the defensive side of the ball as a rush end. That's a new aspect for Walton's game in 2025.
Through his first three seasons of high school ball, Walton logged 567 carries for 4,714 yards with 56 rushing scores, plus 66 receptions for 953 yards and 7 receiving touchdowns. His three kickoff return touchdowns bring his career scoring total to 66. Now he's also wreaking havoc on the defensive side of the ball, logging about 10 snaps a game on the defensive line.
The Notre Dame football team has to be pumped up by Jonaz Walton's performance so far. That he's not even thinking about looking anywhere else is a massive bonus.
