The Notre Dame football program is rolling on the football field. Marcus Freeman and Co. are also rolling right along on the recruiting front. On the latter, the Fighting Irish got a big boost in Kamieon Compton-Nero earlier this week.
The star athlete, who has been productive on both offense and defense, has just narrowed his list of schools to a Top 5. The Irish made that group alongside Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Alabama, and SMU. Now Marcus Freeman and Co. need to keep pressing the advantage in a state far from their usual hunting ground.
Kamieon Compton-Nero is a 4-star athlete in the 2028 recruiting class. The 6-foot-3, 185-pound athlete plays for Owasso High School in Owasso, Oklahoma. He’s ranked the No. 45 player in the class, the No. 1 player at his position, and the No. 1 player in Oklahoma, according to the latest 247 Composite Rankings.
In addition to Notre Dame, Compton-Nero has accumulated nearly 20 scholarship offers, including Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Florida State, Kansas State, LSU, Michigan, Mississippi State, Missouri, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, Oregon, SMU, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, and Vanderbilt, among others.
4-star athlete Kamieon Compton-Nero plans November 7 visit to Notre Dame for Miami matchup
As a sophomore, Compton-Nero gained 3,335 total yards of offense and accounted for 49 total TDs in leading Rejoice Christian to a second consecutive Oklahoma A-I state championship. He threw for 2,584 yards and 38 TDs and rushed for 751 yards and 8 TDs. Recorded 95 tackles and 5 INTs, including 3 return TDs.
The athlete recently spoke with the Irish Recruiting Wire about why he sees the Fighting Irish as one of his final candidates:
“So much of who Notre Dame is on and off the field aligns with who I am and who I want to develop to be. I had developed a good relationship with Wes Yerty when he was at Ole Miss and then the relationship with Coach Henry has been great with me and my family. He’s a coach I could be in his room and have a lot of success. Then Coach Freeman is one of the best in the game so not much needs to be added to that. I’m excited to get on campus November 7th.”
That November 7 date remains a massive one for Notre Dame. Not only is Kamieon Compton-Nero among a huge group of top targets planning to be on campus for game day, but the Fighting Irish also face off against Miami in what continues to be the most important game of the 2026 season.
