As the Notre Dame football team continues working on bringing in the best players in the 2028 class, the upcoming visit from Langston Pridgeon is a very good sign.
Pridgeon is set to pay another visit to South Bend on September 19 when the Irish face off against Michigan State. While there are plenty of schools that would like to haul in the talented defensive back, the Golden Domers are standing out for Pridgeon for two very good reasons. The program's tradition and the way it sets up players for when their time on the gridiron is over.
Pridgeon recently talked to On3 analyst Steve Wilftong about why he's taking such a hard look at Notre Dame: "The tradition at Notre Dame is powerful, and the quality of its education is something I greatly value."
It's hardly the first time a prospect has talked about the academics in South Bend being a big draw. It's long been one of the top recruiting pitches Marcus Freeman and his assistants have used. What used to be a sort of weak point—that the school requires higher grades than the programs it competes with—is now something kids are more interested in, as the relatively short stay in football is a bigger topic of conversation.
The 6-foot-2, 175-pound four-star cornerback from DeMatha Catholic (Hyattsville, MD) clearly likes what he's heard from Notre Dame about life after his playing days are over, whenever that may be. However, he's far from committing to the Irish, and Freeman's crew will have to fight off some of the best teams in the country to win his services.
Langston Pridgeon gives Notre Dame football a major 2028 recruiting opportunity
Pridgeon is ranked as the No. 89 player in the 2028 class, the No. 8 player at his cornerback position, and the No. 4 player in the state of Maryland, according to 247Sports Composite Rankings. In addition to the Irish, the safety prospect has offers from Auburn, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Indiana, LSU, Miami, North Carolina, Ohio State, Penn State, Tennessee, Texas A&M, and Wisconsin among many others. In all, more than 35 schools have come calling.
At the moment, it looks like the Buckeyes could be the biggest competitors for Langston Pridgeon. Ohio State podcast Lettermen Row believes he could be very close to pulling the trigger for the Big Ten school. However, things can change quickly in recruiting, especially with the 2028 class.
For now, Notre Dame will focus on getting the defensive back into South Bend on September 19 to watch them romp over Michigan State. Should the Fighting Irish take care of business, they could kill two birds with one stone.
