The Notre Dame football team had a ton of success recruiting the defensive line in the 2027 cycle. Now they're turning their attention to the 2028 class and one of the top players in that class. Asher Ghioto still has a way to go before he'll pull the trigger on anyone, but it's clear that the Fighting Irish are at least in the picture.
The 6-foot-5, 240-pound 5-star edge defender from The Bolles School (Jacksonville, FL) recently talked about all the schools that have been talking to him the most. While he rattled off a long list to 247Sports' Kolby Crawford , the Golden Domers are in the mix. Unfortunately, for now, it's still looking like the defender will stay in the Sunshine State.
The latest Rivals predictions in mid-July favored Miami to land the defender, with the Florida Gators running a distant second. Schools like Texas A&M and Clemson are also considered Notre Dame's biggest rivals if it wants to land Asher Ghioto.
Ghioto is ranked as the consensus No. 3 player in the 2028 class, the No. 1 player at his edge position, and the No. 2 player in the state of Florida. In addition to the schools that he's rattled off as being the frontrunners, he has offers from Alabama, Auburn, Colorado, Duke, Florida Atlantic, Florida State, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, LSU, Michigan, Mississippi State, Missouri, Nebraska, North Carolina, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Oregon, Penn State, Tennessee, Texas, Texas A&M, and USC among others. In all, he has more than 60 total offers.

Asher Ghioto gives Notre Dame football a massive 5-star recruiting opportunity
It's clear why the schools that have offered, are after him hard. He's been dominant in high school so far, to the point where some of his stats don't even seem like they could be real.
Ghioto recorded 84 tackles, 35 tackles for loss, 23 sacks, two pass breakups, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and one interception during his 2025 sophomore season. As a freshman in 2024, he recorded 66 tackles, 21 tackles for loss, and 7 sacks, bringing his totals to 150 tackles, 56 tackles for loss, and 30 sacks through his first two varsity seasons.
Notre Dame will host Asher Ghioto for a fall gameday visit. Unsurprisingly, he'll be in South Bend when Miami comes to visit. That could end up getting two birds with one stone if they can overwhelm the Hurricanes at home. It's clear that Marcus Freeman and Co. know he'll be in South Bend soon, and when he comes, they'll need to put the full-court press on him.
