Notre Dame football has quite the quarterback room set to take the field in 2026, and Marcus Freeman and Co. are working hard to make sure that room is stocked with talent in the very near future. One of those top talents is 2029 quarterback prospect Logan Lucero. He just received an offer from the Fighting Irish, and it looks like they made a big impact.
One reason the Golden Domers have made such an impact on Lucero is that his high school head coach, Daniel Novakov, can tell him all about the great situation in South Bend. Novakov is a former Irish quarterback from the early 2000s, and he's spoken at length with Lucero about how great this new offer is.
“That’s an offer he wanted and was elated to get it,” Novakov recently told On3's Mike Singer. “Their Catholicism is a big part of their identity and life, so Notre Dame is a huge deal and means a lot.”
It doesn't hurt that Novakov also has a very good relationship with the Fighting Irish's quarterbacks coach. The coach at Parish Episcopal School (Dallas, TX) said he talks to Gino Guidugli quite often, and Logan Lucero has certainly come up in those conversations more than a few times.
Logan Lucero gives Notre Dame football a future quarterback target with real Irish ties
“I’ve been talking to Gino about Logan for a long time; I think I even showed him Logan’s middle school film,” Novakov said. “He had been telling me all offseason that he’d come down to see Logan throw and that if everything checked out, he’d offer.”
The excitement over the Notre Dame offer is a big deal for both the 2029 quarterback and the program. However, Marcus Freeman and Co. do have plenty of Power Conference opponents they're fighting for Lucero's commitment, when he's even close to pulling the trigger on a pledge.
In addition to the Irish, Lucero has offers from Arkansas, Baylor, Colorado, Florida Atlantic, Kentucky, Michigan, SMU, South Carolina, TCU, Tennessee, Texas State, and Utah. While it's still too early for recruiting sites to rank the 2029 class, it's very clear that the 6-foot-2, 215-pound gunslinger's profile is only going to increase over the next few years.
His size at a young age has already allowed him to look much better than his opponents. Analysts have seen that he stands tall in the pocket and delivers quality throws. Those throws come hard and accurately, even when he has a defender in his face. He's also someone who seems like the perfect gritty Notre Dame prospect, as he's not remotely afraid to take a big hit.
Perhaps a bit like a Riley Leonard-type quarterback, Logan Lucero looks to deliver a hit more than be the recipient. Both his size and strength allow him to lower his shoulder and run through weak tackling. As he continues to grow, it will be interesting to see how much of a bulldozer-type runner he can become.
It's clear that after the Notre Dame football team offered the 2029 quarterback, it became a frontrunner in his recruitment. Considering how long it is until he can officially sign with anyone, it's good to have a foot in the door. The Irish will need to keep working hard to stay ahead of the pack.
