While most of the talk this offseason has been about what Jeremiyah Love will do with the Arizona Cardinals, there’s another former Notre Dame player who is making quite a bit of noise with his new team. Wide receiver Malachi Fields didn’t get the same kind of hype as Love when the New York Giants selected him in the third round of the draft. However, it appears that he’s got quite a few admirers now that he’s officially part of the squad and has been working out ahead of fall camp.
ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reports that the Giants are "highly impressed" with what they have seen from Fields thus far as training camp gets underway this summer.
The Giants selected Fields with the No. 74 overall pick in the 2026 NFL draft. He was a standout at Notre Dame last season, where he recorded 630 receiving yards and five touchdowns as a senior.
The 6-foot-4 Fields is currently the Giants' tallest wide receiver. He excels as a 50-50 deep-ball threat and is listed as the team's WR4 behind Malik Nabers, Darnell Mooney, and Darius Slayton for this coming season.

Across four years at Virginia, Fields posted 129 receptions for 1,849 yards and 11 touchdowns, then transferred to Notre Dame.
The Giants stacked the receiver room this offseason, adding Darnell Mooney and Calvin Austin III in free agency and bringing in veterans Odell Beckham Jr. and JuJu Smith-Schuster on comeback timelines. Holdovers Jalin Hyatt and Isaiah Hodgins are still fighting for snaps too. Fields is the rookie outrunning all of it. That will make it difficult for Fields to get higher than the WR4 position.
Still, if he manages to continue to impress, the former Notre Dame wideout could eventually show that he can use his body and his hands to continue making a name for himself with a Giants team that desperately needs some good news, especially on offense.
