While Notre Dame's recruiting heater has cooled a bit after a couple of losses to rival teams, nabbing Monsanna Torbert, a recent decommit from Indiana, would certainly be one way to get back on track.

On Monday, Torbert decided to leave the Hoosiers class and reopen his recruiting process. The 5-foot, 10-inch and 158-pound cornerback made his verbal to Curt Cignetti and Co. a little over a week before they won the National Title, but after multiple new offers, including one from the Irish, the DB couldn’t help but look at other schools.

In a new article by On3’s Mike Singer, Fighting Irish Wire reports that Singer mentions that Notre Dame will get an official visit from the nation’s No. 139 overall prospect in the 247Sports Composite and a Top 70 Recruit (No. 10 CB) in the 2027 Rivals300. Two other Midwest powers will also host official visits from Torbert, as he’ll also see Ohio State and Michigan.

The Irish will get the last chance to impress the talented defensive back, but at the moment, Freeman and his staff have their work cut out for them. Ohio State is currently considered the leader for Torbert's services.

Monsanna Torbert gives Notre Dame football a chance to flip momentum after Indiana exit

It's possible that the fight for the defensive back, who also plays quarterback for Princeton High in Cincinnati, could go all the way down to December. In addition to Notre Dame, Ohio State, and Michigan, a few others have entered the race lately. Virginia Tech is battling it out. The Hokies have offered and would love nothing more than to secure an official visit. South Carolina recently offered the Gamecocks are vying for an official visit, and continue to prioritize him. Missouri and Oklahoma are a few others to keep an eye on moving forward.

While Torbert was committed to the Hoosiers for a while, it's clear that things are quite a bit more open, and he's looking to make the right decision this time around.

In addition to a possible new landscape for his college career, Torbert will play at a new high school this fall. He'd spent his first few years at Taft, where he took his squad to an 11-1 record in 2025 after winning a regional championship with the Senators in 2024. He threw for over 3,600 yards and 50 touchdowns while also running for over 1,000 more yards on the ground. Torbert was first-team All-Ohio for the Senators and will have top target Lorenzo McMullen with him at Princeton after the sophomore announced in April he would also be transferring.

McMullen is another prospect high on Notre Dame's board, and the Fighting Irish would like nothing more than to reel in both prospects.

While Torbert has put up some impressive numbers, it appears most schools agree that his college future is in the defensive backfield. While the film is somewhat limited on him in the corner, it's clear he displays advanced tracking skills from a single-high alignment as he maneuvers his way to the catch point. He hasn't had to do a ton of one-on-one coverage, but he does have the speed and instincts that should make him a plus defender in that regard.

After an unofficial visit earlier this spring, Notre Dame will have to make a heck of a sales pitch when Monsanna Torbert visits South Bend this summer.
