Considering the No. 1 wide receiver in the 2027 class is located in Indiana, Notre Dame football likely thought it had a good shot of landing Monshun Sales. Unfortunately, the hot prospect just named his final four schools, and the Fighting Irish are not among them.

Instead of Marcus Freeman and his crew, Sales told Hayes Fawcett that the finalists are Indiana, Alabama, Miami, and Ohio State. Sales is looking at staying in state, but if he does so, it will be with the Hoosiers rather than ND.

It certainly makes some sense that Sales is looking at Alabama if he chooses to leave his home. The wide receiver visited Alabama on January 31. Additionally, Alabama does not yet have a wide receiver committed in the 2027 cycle so that Sales would fill a need should he commit to the Crimson Tide.

Monshun Sales final four: Indiana, Alabama, Miami, Ohio State. No Notre Dame

The other school that is considered a frontrunner in landing sales is Curt Cignetti's program. All throughout the 2025 season, everyone talked about how Indiana didn't have a 5-star recruit, and Sales could end up being the Hoosiers' first. Indiana is making the final group points to how impressive Cignetti's turnaround has been, and if he can close the deal, it would be remarkable.

It's unlikely that Notre Dame will give up on the No. 1 WR in the class, considering he is indeed just a few hours up the road. However, it is clear that with the schools on his final four list, it will be difficult to fight them off. Still, the Monshun Sales recruiting fight will be one to watch the rest of the year.
