The Notre Dame football team started off May on a heck of a heater with a quartet of commitments, but recruiting moves fast and furiously, especially this time of year. That's why the Fighting Irish making the Final Five for 4-star wide receiver Osani Gayles is such a big deal.
Osani Gayles put Notre Dame football among the last five schools standing
Gayles is a Top‑50 national, Top‑10 WR, Top‑10 in Florida type prospect out of IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. He's got all the best teams coming for him, and the Fighting Irish have managed to fight off most of them to be a finalist.Â
In addition to Notre Dame, Gayles announced the schools he's still considering are Alabama, Stanford, Tennessee, and Washington. It's an eclectic group that doesn't show a real lean towards any one area of the country, which makes all of the schools fighting for position to get a real foothold.

When trying to get a read on who of the final five might be taking the lead, the Crimson Tide is the most recent suitor out of the contenders, joining Gayles' recruitment last October. Tennessee, Washington, Notre Dame, and Stanford have been in the mix for over a year.
Osani Gayles gives Notre Dame football a real chance as the final five heads to visits
The 5-foot-11 wide receiver has official visits set for all the finalists. Stanford will get the first OV on May 23, followed by 'Bama on May 29, Washington on June 6, Tennessee on June 13, and then the Irish on June 20.Â
With so many visits in such a short amount of time, it stands to reason Gayles will commit not long after that trip to South Bend.Â
During his junior season at IMG Academy, Gayles caught 20 passes for 492 yards and 5 touchdowns. He added 5 carries for 70 yards and another score. Gayles averaged 24.6 yards per reception. Gayles posted three games with 100+ receiving yards, including a season-high 3 catches for 122 yards and a touchdown in a 49-14 victory against Central High School on September 26.
Notre Dame should take being included in this list as a very good sign, considering Gayles' first unofficial trip to South Bend was on the weekend of April 10.Â
