Notre Dame football keeps proving it's an elite, National Title contender
Notre Dame football has become one of College Football most dominant teams this season as they sit 10-1 after a complete domination over the No.19 undefeated Army Black Knights. After a chaotic week 13, Irish fans know they will at least jump Indiana, but national media is beginning to recognize the Fighting Irish as a legit championship contender.
Since the Irish's inexcusable loss to Northern Illinois, Notre Dame has won nine straight games and in dominant fashion as their nine wins are by an average of 33 points, including wins over three ranked teams when they played. Notre Dame is averaging 40 points per game and is currently top 10 in points per game and continues to dominate the rushing game as their rushing attack is ranked 11th in rushing yards per game at 222 yards per game.
The Irish defense is one of the best in the nation as the stats clearly back it up. They rank fourth in total yards per game as the Irish only give up 273 yards per game. They give up the least amount of passing yards in the country at 139.5 yards per game and the second least amount of points per game at 11.
Notre Dame football taking things to another level
Since Oct.1 the Irish lead the nation in points per game at 40.1 points and lead the nation in points given up at 10 points per game. Irish also have six wins against bowl eligible teams which ranks as the second most in the nation. The Irish defense has held six of their opponents to 250 total yards or less. Notre Dame has forced the most turnovers in College Football at 26, with 15 interceptions and 11 fumble recoveries. The Fighting Irish have the second best plus/minus turnover differential at 16.
Irish has their final test of the season this Saturday against USC and with a dominant win, the Fighting Irish hope to possibly jump Penn State and be ranked six in the rankings. Final rankings come out on Dec. 8 at noon on ESPN.
