Now that Steve Angeli has departed the Notre Dame football program, analysts and beat writers around the team believe they know ho has won the starting quarterback job, even if he hasn’t been announced. One beat writer made the case for why he believes that CJ Carr is “the man” and it has to do with how similar his game looks to some former South Bend greats.

Timmy Hyde, who has been a long time beat writer of the Fighting Irish on Blue and Gold is very much sold on Carr. He laid out exactly why he believes he’ll be the starting quarterback even if Kenny Minchey is still technically in the running.

“He literally is the closest quarterback to Clausen and Quinn since those guys have left,” Hyde recently said about the Notre Dame football team. “There hasn't been a quarterback comparable to them. I think C. J. Carr could get to that level as a thrower, as a quarterback, as a leader.”

Why CJ Carr is emerging as Notre Dame football’s next great quarterback

Hyde went on to say that fans need to realize that even if that’s the case, there are going to be growing pains. Should Carr start, it would mean that he’ll do so without having ever played in a college game. And because of that, there will be times he won’t be perfect.

“Leonard threw some of the worst picks we've ever seen in our life. Got to go with the best talent. And this is my opinion. I don’t know how that’s not CJ Carr. If he’s the guy, there’s a hell of a team that’s going to be built around them to help him have a learning curve.”

Hyde isn’t wrong, and with the candidates now only being Carr and Minchey, whoever the Notre Dame football team chooses is going to have those same issues. Minchey also hasn’t played much in a college football game so while he has a few snaps, it’s not enough that it should really be considered something where he’s a “veteran.” And that might be the easiest way to tell it’s going to be CJ Carr.
