As the Notre Dame football team fills out its 2026 class, it's started taking more aim at the 2027 cycle and is already the frontrunner for several of the best players in the class. That includes a 4-star in-state edge, Jayce Brewer.
Brewer, who is a 4-star EDGE out of Franklin Central (Indianapolis, IN), is the No. 3 player in Indiana, the No. 28 EDGE, and No. 250 player in the Rivlas Industry Rankings. The 6-foot-5, 240-pound defender has been taking off when it comes to offers from power programs, but the Irish are still considered the frontrunner, at least according to Steve Wiltfong.
Notre Dame football set pace for 2027 edge target Jayce Brewer despite SEC push
Including Notre Dame football, Brewer has over 20 offers from schools like Indiana, Illinois, Toledo, Purdue, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Boston College, Tennessee, Western Michigan, Michigan, Florida, Maryland, Bowling Green, Nebraska, Iowa, Penn State, Arizona State, and, most recently, LSU.
During his 2024 season, Brewer logged 38 total tackles, 12 tackles for loss, 3 sacks, 2 pass breakups, and 1 interception.
The next step will, of course, be getting Brewer to see what South Bend has to offer. Being from Indianapolis, it will be easier than some of the other top prospects the Irish are going after in the 2027 class.
The team will also have to figure out a way to fight the wanderlust that will almost certainly kick in when he starts thinking about going someplace outside his home state.
The good news here is that the Notre Dame football staff has been one of the best in the business in the 2026 class, and there's no indication they won't continue to be for the 2027 cycle.
