The long-awaited reunion between the Notre Dame football team and former quarterback Steve Angeli could be on the way this November. The former Fighting Irish fan-favorite, who is now a quarterback at Syracuse, suffered a devastating injury last season. This week, he returned to the practice field.
Angeli's return to action did come with a caveat that he was still a bit hampered. That's not exactly a surprise considering his Achilles injury. That he's already back in any action at all shows that he could indeed be full go by the fall. Then it's about winning the starting quarterback job.
The Orange brought in several quarterbacks through the portal this winter. Earlier this week, Syracuse head coach Fran Brown made it clear they brought in so many QBs because they didn't want to be caught flat-footed due to injury, the way they were in 2025. The approach could stand in the way of Angeli vs Notre Dame once again.

Steve Angeli's return to practice puts a Notre Dame football reunion back in play for November
According to Syracuse reporter Ashley Wenskoski, Angeli did participate in several drills, though he was most limited when he was running. That's not surprising, considering the road to recovery is still plenty long.
Even with the arrivals of Malachi Nelson from UTEP, Danny Lauter from Georgetown, and Amari Odom from Kennesaw State, Angeli will be the odds-on favorite to start for Syracuse should he be fully healthy by the fall.
Still, with talent like Odom, who threw for 2,594 yards, 19 touchdowns, and just 8 interceptions while also running for over 300 yards, there will be competition. Should the former Notre Dame star not be ready to go, the Orange think they have someone who can take his place. But that would certainly make the November season finale be less fun.
