Marcus Freeman and Notre Dame football are continuing what is an incredibly impressive recruiting run. What makes their latest victory on Monday, is that the roll continued into the 2027 class. While the Fighting Irish are having all sorts of success hauling in the best of the best in the 2026 class, Ellis McGaskin starts off their next class in impressive fashion.
The 6-foot, 215-pound McGaskin was in South Bend earlier this month for Irish Invasion. He chooses Notre Dame over his other top schools in LSU, Tennessee and Ohio State. Beating out those Power 4 programs is another reason why scoring this particular linebacker is a very big win.

“It was the culture,” McGaskin told On3 not long after he pulled the trigger for Notre Dame football. “The atmosphere. The coaches. From the moment we stepped foot in South Bend we felt the love.”
The 4-star linebacker also made it clear that South Bend is important to him and his family because the whole gang can all live near campus, should they decided to do that.
McGaskin ranks as the nation’s No. 10 linebacker and No. 188 prospect overall. He is commit No. 2 for Notre Dame in the class of 2027 alongside long snapper Sean Kraft.
The linebacker can’t sign with the Notre Dame football team until December of 2026. Because of that, there’s bound to be some strong pushes to try and get him to flip. He’s already got offers from Auburn, Colorado, Florida, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Miami, Tennessee,UCF, and other schools. Interest is only going to increase as he plays his junior season this fall. For now though, the Fighting Irish are the big winners.
