For the second time this season, Notre Dame football fans are worrying about more than just who the Fighting Irish are facing off against on Saturday. They also have to worry about whether the weather will cause the game to be interrupted or possibly even postponed.

With rain as part of the outlook for Saturday night, there is at least a chance that things between the two Top 25 teams will get sloppy. However, the rain could come with thunder and lightning, and that could mean at least waiting things out for a little bit, in the middle of the contest.

Weather forecast adds drama to Notre Dame’s Top 25 showdown with USC

The most recent weather reports indicate Notre Dame Stadium won't be particularly pleasant, with temperatures around 64 degrees and wind speeds of up to 30 miles per hour. Add some rain to those relatively strong gusts, and it's certainly going to look like an old-school October showdown between two of the most storied programs in college football.

The worst part of all of this is that the game has a late enough start at 7:30 p.m. that, should things get delayed, the tilt could go late into the night.

College football fans might remember a few years back when a Nebraska season opener was straight-up canceled because there was just enough weather and just enough lightning that the start time kept getting pushed back until it was simply too late to start.

The good news here is that the game is important enough for both Notre Dame and USC that, should the lightning force a long wait, the teams will do everything they can to play the contest even if they have to find another weekend later in the season to do so.
