Hannah Hidalgo has been nothing but dominant since coming to South Bend and leading the Notre Dame women’s basketball team to win after win after win.
The star guard’s dominance was demonstrated on Tuesday in the best way possible. Just a few days after the Irish tied for the regular season conference title, Hidalgo was named the ACC Player of the Year. That follows her first season in South Bend when all she did was win Freshman of the Year.
It appears the Notre Dame women’s basketbal star did that award one better in the 2024-25 campaign. The ACC recently named her the player of the year, showing that once again, anyone who ignores just how talented she is, will likely pay a heavy price. Especially as we head towards the period of time when NCAA Tournament legends are made.
Notre Dame women’s basketball star takes home two ACC awards
In a press release from the Fighting Irish, Hidalgo wasn’t just named Player of the Year either. She also took home Defensive Player of the Year. This award is one that is likely very special for the guard considering the scoring she does on the regular.
What’s clear is that Hidalgo has put together a very impressive second season in college basketball. She’s averaging 24.2 points per game (up from 22.6 a year ago), as well as 5.3 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 3.7 steals per game.
Interestingly enough, her rebounds and steals are both down from her freshman year and yet she still took home the ACC Defensive Player of the Year for the Notre Dame women’s basketball team.
