When Derek Meadows was set to announce his commitment last weekend, it looked like Notre Dame football lost the right for one of its top wide receiver targets. It seemed as though it was another loss for the Irish in a period that’s been tough.

However, Derek Meadows changed his mind. At least about when he’s announcing his commitment. It’s now coming this weekend. And it looks like the Golden Domers are back in front.

It’s not just Notre Dame football followers believing they’re the favorites for the Bishop Gorman prospect, either. Some LSU analysts also believe the Tigers have fallen behind again.

On3’s Shea Dixon is the latest analyst to weigh in on where the Irish and Tigers stand for Meadows. And like most others talking about the situation with just a few days before his announcement, Dixon believes the race is between Brian Kelly and Marcus Freeman.

However, Dixon also said that while he thinks LSU was the front-runner last weekend, the delay might have been enough for Notre Dame to set things right. Dixon now believes Meadows was talked to enough that he’s looking at South Bend as his landing spot again.

It’s worth noting that no matter who the 4-star wide receiver picks, the fight is far from over. Someone who seems to be this on the fence is not going to be done with his recruiting on July 20.

This is a fight that’s going to go all the way to December. That’s both good news and bad news for Marcus Freeman and company.

Even if Notre Dame football wins the fight this Saturday, the coaching staff will need to make sure they keep Derek Meadows on lock for the next five months.
