Notre Dame football back in the fight for Derek Meadows

Just when I thought I was out, Derek Meadows has pulled me back in. The Bishop Gorman wide receiver seemed to have decided that Notre Dame football was right for him and he was leaning toward a couple of SEC schools.

However, there’s been movement that might indicate the Fighting Irish are back in the race. At the very least, they have some more time to show the 4-star wideout that South Bend is really a better landing spot.

Meadows originally planned to announce his commitment on Saturday, July 13. However on Thursday night, the wide receiver moved that date back a week. And now Notre Dame football can get back in the fight.

"I'm looking at a lot of things with these schools," Meadows said recently. "But I know they've got to have a great quarterback to throw the ball, they have to have a great education and great leaders. Overall I'm finding the best fit for me and my future."

Notre Dame certainly checks the box when it comes to having a great quarterback. While he won’t be playing with Riley Leonard, he could be catching passes in South Bend from CJ Carr or Deuce Knight. Steven Angeli and Kenny Minchey could still be around as well. It seems as though the Irish imparted that to Meadows and got their foot back in the door.

Marcus Freeman and several other coaches reportedly talked to the 4-star prospect’s family on Tuesday night. That convinced Derek Meadows to push his commitment date back.

At this point, it’s implausible the extra week will generate another visit or anything that drastic. However, they could have more time to talk to him and steer them away from LSU, who had jumped into the lead.

The Notre Dame football team is back in contention and there is some talk that the Irish are back in the lead. This would be a heck of a turnaround after the coaching staff has had some serious trouble landing their wide receiver targets.
