The Notre Dame football team got a bit of bad news towards the end of this week. One of its best secondary commits Ivan Taylor is checking out an SEC Power on an official visit.

Taylor's commitment to the Irish earlier this year was a surprise, as he had not hinted at when he would reveal his college football plans. Despite this, Marcus Freeman and his staff were confident. However, recent developments suggest their confidence may have been premature.

The good news, if there is good news when talking about a Notre Dame football commit visiting other schools, is that Freeman and company knew it was coming. Because ND tends to move away from commits who take in other schools, it seems the staff isn’t particularly worried about losing Taylor.

Notre Dame football commit takes visit to SEC power

Taylor, who is ranked as the No. 59 overall prospect and No. 7 safety in the 2025 class according to On3’s composite rankings, is believed to still be committed to the Fighting Irish. However, the situation could change after his visit to Alabama this weekend, adding a layer of uncertainty to the narrative.

Obviously, the Golden Domers have plenty to worry about in their own back yard. The coaching staff is hosting 13 recruits on campus this weekend for official visits, 11 of those play on the defensive side of the ball.

They’re also set to host Taylor on the weekend of June 14. Assuming that trip still takes place and his visit to see the Crimson Tide isn’t the beginning of the end of his relationship with the Irish, the coaches could offset whatever he sees and hears in Tuscaloosa this weekend.

Notre Dame football has been on a bit of an up-and-down swing the last few weeks. Ivan Taylor sticking with team would be a big up.
