Now that Notre Dame football spring practices are really ramping up, there are some fighting Irish players that are standing out from the pack. One of those players just happens to be a true freshman. However, it’s not as though he’s come out of nowhere.

Micah Gilbert has been impressing anyone who has been able to watch Notre Dame football practices this week. That was especially the case on Wednesday when the media was allowing into most of an open session to see who all was working out well and who was struggling a bit.

Sure enough, the freshman wide receiver put on a clinic, taking throws from several quarterbacks and hauling in anything that came close to him. He had so many “poster” moments that the official Notre Dame football account had to take to social media to show how good he looked.

The end of the sizzle reel was easily the most impressive as it showed Gilbert well-covered by one of his teammates on the play. Still, the ball was placed perfectly and the young receiver hauled it in while going to the ground in the end zone.

Notre Dame freshman Micah Gilbert is living up to the rave reviews

It’s not as though Micah Gilbert came out of nowhere to impress in these early days of his freshman campaign. There was the time last fall when he absolutely schooled a quarterback who is now a member of the Michigan Wolverines.

And he did it as a defensive back.

He was also seen as a massive commit for the Fighting Irish almost a year ago this month when he gave his pledge.

The former 4-star pledge came to South Bend with something to prove. At least so far, he seems to be proving the hype was worth it. It will be interesting to see if he can keep that rolling through spring and into the fall.
