Notre Dame Fighting Irish News: It could be worse we could be Brandeis, more
- A full on mutiny is going on at Brandeis University.
- Xavier Watts still a role model.
- Notre Dame Fighting Irish lacrosse continue to be the best in the land.
No matter how bad things get with some parts of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish athletic department, things will almost certainly always be better than they are currently with the Brandeis University Women's Basketball team. Lots of things went wrong with Micah Shrewsberry's first squad, but it appears everyone is on the same page these days.
The same can't be said for Brandeis, which saw the remaining 11 women's basketball players send a letter to head coach Carol Simon last week which said they would all quit the time if she didn't resign.
The letter is the latest step in what has been a long ongoing situation that involves allegations of "racist and toxic behavior" from Simon. The players say they have also lost trust in the administration to deal with Simon.
“The team is in shambles,” junior Lulu Ohm told the Boston Globe. “People are stressed out of their minds because there’s a pressure on us to make things right because, unfortunately, the university has not really been hearing us until we started showing them how much we need to be heard.”
Simon has been coaching Brandeis since 1987 and has compiled almost 700 wins. However, she was put on leave in February due to allegations. The story is one that is noteworthy for no other reason than it will certainly be interesting to see who blinks in this showdown.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish news blurbs
Thanks to a big win on Saturday that clinched the ACC, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish are still ranked number one in the entire country in men's lacrosse. If that wasn't good enough, the women's team is ranked number two. There's a real chance both teams could finish the 2024 season as National Champs.
One of the biggest stars on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish defense remains Xavier Watts. Eric Hansen recently wrote a great piece that delves into the leadership of Watts and what his perserverance turned into after he originally came to South Bend as a receiver.
There was a ton to like about Notre Dame's Blue-Gold game on Saturday, but there was one area that should still have Fighting Irish fans nervous. Jack Soble took a look at the biggest question facing the team: can the offense line do its job this year?
