When the Notre Dame Fighting Irish take the field on Saturday for the Blue Gold game, they're going to be making sure that one member of the team understands how much his mother was appreciated.

During warmup for the game, the entire Notre Dame Fighting Irish team will be warming up in a special shirt. Head coach Marcus Freeman held the shirt up shortly after the Blue-Gold Game draft and made the announcement.

"This is a purple shirt with the 'ND' logo, and on the back, it has Romans 15:13," Freeman said. "We're gonna wear this in honor of Jaden Mickey's mother, Nilka Mickey. So, this will be in our lockers. We will wear a pre-game, and then you guys can change, obviously, as we get ready to go out for the actual game."

In addition to the team's efforts to remember Nilka, Jaden Mickey has started selling special wristbands to remember his mother and to help fight colon cancer.

Nilka passed away in December, just hours before Jaden played in the Sun Bowl for the Notre Dame Football team.
