The Notre Dame Fighting Irish hockey team’s season came to a rather unfortunate end on Saturday night. Turns out that forward Landon Slaggert is wasting no time thinking about what could have been.

Instead the Golden Domer is thinking about his future. That future now includes a shot at officially playing in the NHL.

Slaggert signed a new contract with the Chicago Blackhawks organization on Sunday. According to the the team, the entry-level deal runs through the 2024-25 season with a $912,500 salary cap hit.

Slaggert was able to sign the deal because the Blackhawks held his rights thanks to drafting him in the third round of the 2020 NHL Draft.

According to the Chicago Sun Times, Slaggert will be joining the Blackhawks for the rest of this season and could slot in well in a bottom-six role. That could be the perfect role for the senior who will get a chance to show he could stick around for a rebuilding team that is making a definite youth movement.

The new contract has to be a pick-me-up for Landon Slaggert after finishing what had to be a bit of a disappointing season for Notre Dame Hockey. There was a time when they looked like they might compete for a Big Ten title.

However, the Iirsh struggled down the stretch, including losing four straight games at the end of the year, to Michigan. They finished the regular season in Ann Arbor and then had to take the Wolverines on in a best-of-three series in the Big Ten Tournament.

Despite Notre Dame’s struggles this year, Slaggert had another solid season. He finished the campaign with 20 goals and 11 assists in 36 games.

Over the course of his Notre Dame Fighting Irish career, Landon Slaggert tallied 92 points thanks to 47 goals and 45 assists in 136 games.
