Notre Dame Football: The slim chance Joe Alt drops in the 2024 NFL Draft
When the 2024 NFL Draft kicks off on Thursday night, almost all the mock drafts that have been published this winter believe former Notre Dame Football offensive lineman Joe Alt will be snapped up before we get to the 10th pick. However, there is at least one analyst who believes there’s a chance the talented tackle could slip.
According to NFL Mock Draft Database, 58.4 percent of drafts have the Tennessee Titans taking Joe Alt. The other mocks have him going to the Arizona Cardinals and a few have him getting picked as high as 5th by the San Diego Chargers. Others see him getting taken by the New York Jets. However, should the former Notre Dame Football star be there when the Titans have their choice, All Titans writer Nubyjas Wilborn believes his favorite team could select a skill player instead.
“What if general manager Ran Carthon and first-year coach Brian Callahan prefer a wide receiver?” Wilbon wrote. “Or a trade down in the first round to acquire more assets for their rebuilding project?”
Other analysts, such as ESPN’s Matt Miller believe there’s a chance that Alt could get taken before the Titans have a chance.
Ex-Notre Dame Football star could see uncertainty despite being the best lineman available
"I think the only scenario that, as a Titans fan you have to worry about is if the L.A. Chargers just stick at 5 and say: 'We're going to build through the trenches, and we'll take Joe Alt,'" Miller said Friday during a conference call. "Rashawn Slater is about to hit a contract year, so they could certainly be drafting ahead for the future. If you're a Titans fan, you think about, 'How could your board get wiped out?' That is certainly one way, if the Chargers stay at five and take Alt."
All of this goes to show one thing. Even though many people think Joe Alt is a sure thing to go in the first round, there’s still some disagreement on just where the ex-Notre Dame Football star will go. That still allows for some fun and a reason for Irish fans to tune into the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft on Thursday night.
