The day that Notre Dame football fans have dreaded for months might be just about here. The Fighting Irish might be about to lose their top quarterback commit in the 2025 class.

The warning signs are all there. 4-star quarterback Deuce Knight is taking a visit to Auburn for the second straight weekend. He’s sporting Tigers gear. And recruiting analysts are all pretty sure he’s going to pull the trigger.

Tom Loy is the latest analyst who believes that Knight is going to flip his commit. He’s also careful to make it clear even if Knight is for some reason not going to see Auburn play. However, he was also clear that Notre Dame football still believes it’s very much in the fight.

That could mean that the Irish aren’t going to chalk it up as a loss if Knight does flip this weekend. Instead, this fight might go down to the wire.

Notre Dame football braces for Deuce Knight flip expected this weekend

“We'll have to see what happens this weekend,” Loy said during a segment with 247Sports. “I was talking to Christian Clemente over at our Auburn site, and he was mentioning some weather might play an impact, whether he makes it to campus this weekend. But Deuce Knight is expected at Auburn. The staff fully expects him to be there this weekend, which is back-to-back weeks. He was there last weekend to watch the Week One thumping of Alabama A&M, I believe it was. So my crystal ball is on Auburn. I expect a flip.”

I expect a flip this weekend. The interesting thing here is that if I ask Marcus Freeman right now, do you have Deuce Knight as a committed prospect? He's going to say yes. If I ask Hugh Freeze the same question, he's probably going to say yes. So that's how confident both sides feel at this point.”

Loy went on to say that the SEC connection is the big thing that is pulling Knight away from Notre Dame football.

“He wants to play SEC football against the best of the best, and I just do not see any way that he's going to Deuce Knight doesn't flip to Auburn by the end of the weekend.”
