If there’s one Notre Dame football commit who knows about being recruited even after giving his pledge, it’s Deuce Knight. The blue-chip prospect has been getting all kinds of teams pursuing him, even while he keeps saying he’s loyal to the Fighting Irish.

That’s why when Knight makes it clear that the Derek Meadows soap opera isn’t over, it feels like he would know. And not long after wide receiver target Derek Meadows picked LSU, Knight did indeed make it clear that he doesn’t think things are over.

The 4-star quarterback commit didn’t have a ton to say about the issue. But he did give just enough hope to Notre Dame football fans that the Irish might get back in the fight for Meadows. After the commitment, the gunslinger posted simply, “it’s not over,” on his Instagram page.

Knight is certainly the one to carry on this battle. It’s a safe bet that he’ll be trying to peer recruit the heck out of the wide receiver. And it’s also a safe bet that the Irish coaches themselves will be working to try and get Meadows to go back on his commitment.

The Irish had a week to get back into the race. It didn’t work out that way and Meadows went his own way. But it’s long felt as though whoever he picked on July 20 might not be the team he signs with in December.

This feels like a fight that’s going until National Signing Day. Knight has made it clear he would like that to be the case.

Now the Notre Dame football coaching staff will need to figure out what the next steps are. If things really aren’t over, they’ll need to figure out a way to drive a wedge
