Notre Dame football broadcast team gets shuffle ahead of 2024 season
When Notre Dame gets down to making a playoff push, they don’t mess around. The Fighting Irish aren’t just revamping their quarterback and wide receiver positions ahead of the 2024 season. They’re also revamping the announcing team that is going to be calling the games.
On Thursday, NBC announced the Notre Dame football broadcast team has replaced Jac Collinsworth. In his place, Longtime NBC broadcaster Dan Hicks is going to be doing play-by-play for the Irish this fall.
While this generation of Notre Dame fans might not know Hicks is, this won’t be the first time he’s ever caled a football game in South Bend. Hicks has been with NBC since 1992. Only a tiny sliver of that time was spent calling football games. He was the Irish’s play-by-play voice on NBC about 10 years ago but for the most part has spent his time calling golf opens and the Olympics.
Hicks has been NBC Sport’s lead play-by-play man for the PGA Tour since 2000. He’s also a veteran of 11 Olympic broadcasts. Among the notable calls Hicks has made was when Michael Phelps Team USA logged a surprise 4×100 freestyle relay win for a gold medal at the 2008 games in Beijing.
He was also front and center for several of Tiger Woods best moments in his career, including when he made birdie on the 72nd hole of the 2008 U.S. Open at Torrey Pines.
Notre Dame football broadcast team pairs Jason Garrett with new partner
While Collinsworth is out, Hicks will be teaming with Jason Garrett who will stay in the booth for Notre Dame football games as an analyst. That might not make some Fighting Irish fans all that happy.
Garrett and Collinsworth were extremely unpopular in the 2023 season. However, the pair were both unpopular and Collinsworth was only half of the hated duo.
