Notre Dame football bye comes just in time for several players to nurse injuries

While the Notre Dame football team has to like where they stand after Week 5 of the season, they have to be happy they get a week off to rest and recuperate as well. The Fighting Irish are quite snakebit when it comes to getting banged up, especially on the offense line.

With a bye week this week, Marcus Freeman’s team will likely look to try and get a little healthy. Against Louisville, the Blue and Gold had at least two players go down and leave the game who are going to be crucial to the season moving forward.

The big question is whether or not Jordan Faison and Boubacar Traore will be able to return after just one week off. If they aren’t able to return, there is a hope that they could at least take some steps towards getting better for the Notre Dame football team.

Traore joins defenders like Jordan Botelho, Gabe Rubio, Josh Burnham, and Christian Gray, who are all missing time due to various injuries. The Irish have depth, but at one point against Louisville, Notre Dame had four true freshmen on the field defensively.

Notre Dame football needs time to heal

Offensively, ND has suffered an unfortunate rash of early injuries this season, mostly along the offensive line. They lost Charles Jagusah in August followed by Ashton Craig and Billy Shrauth in the Purdue game along the offensive line.

Faison has been hampered with an ankle injury for the last few weeks and that seemed to be re-aggravated in the Louisville game.

Unfortunately, all of this means the Notre Dame football team is in wait and see mode. But it’s not ideal to have this many veteran contributors in injury trouble.
