Ex-Notre Dame football DB has historic NFL Combine outing
A handful of former Notre Dame football players are trying to sell themselves this week with their showings at the NFL Combine. It appears that none of them have had the kind of week that defensive back Cam Hart had.
Of course, it turns out that Cam Hart is having the kind of NFL Combine that defensive backs from all over the sport should be envious of at this event. Hart has put up the kind of numbers that could see his NFL Draft stock shoot through the roof, as long as his medicals come back the way he hopes.
The former Notre Dame football captain has long had the kind of talent that fans and coaches thought would eventually lead to a first round draft choice. He showed that he might be realizing that potential now that things are getting real.
According to Kent Lee Platte, the founder and analyst with RAS.football, Hart's Relative Athletic Score not only stood out among those taking place in this year's NFL combine, but among every DB who has ever taken part in the combine.
Platte said that Hart "scored an unofficial 9.82 out of a possible 10.00. This ranked 42 out of 2222 CB from 1987 to 2024."
Let that sink in a bit. Hart ranked 42nd out of more than 2,000 defensive backs that have appeared at this event since 1987. That puts Cam Hart in the top 2 percent at his position historically.
Former Notre Dame football star makes a statement at NFL combine
It's never easy to know exactly what this kind of performance will mean for the former Irish captain's NFL prospect or draft status. There have been plenty of guys who showed out at the Combine only to still be sitting around waiting for the call for all seven rounds.
No matter the outcome, it's clear that Cam Hart has put his best foot forward and represented Notre Dame football well.
