Now that the Notre Dame football team has officially started its spring practices, there are a number of players that analysts and coaches alike are keeping an eye on. Defensive back Christian Gray officially fits nicely in that category.

As some players start to show out for spring practice, it’s not a surprise that members of the defense are the ones that are standing out the most so far in the early going. It’s also not a surprise that Christian Gray is stepping up in the wake of Benjamin Morrison going down.

While there is still plenty of time to see what will happen with the second-round defensive back he has so far shown enough that people around the program are excited. That was especially the case earlier this week when he was going up against some of the very good young talent the Fighting Irish offense has to offer.

Specifically, analyst Jack Soble took to social media to show off what Gray can do, even when he’s one-on-one against talented freshmen wide receivers like Cam Williams.

Soble pointed out in a clip he posted along with the tweet that Gray has made some nice plays, including a pass breakup that showed off what the Notre Dame football program is hoping to see more of this fall.

Notre Dame football is excited about sophomore defensive back

It’s not just Soble who has been impressed with Gray so far this spring. The coaches are said to be quite high on the sophomore who didn’t put up massive numbers in 2023 but he did show flashes.

With Morrison out, he’s expected to be able to show off what he can do a bit more. At the very least Gray will be abe to get ready for the Notre Dame football team’s 2024 season.
