When talking about the 2025 Notre Dame football commits that have the most talent and upside, Deuce Knight’s name is going to come up early and often. One of the top quarterbacks in the 2025 class, he’s been a commit to the Irish for quite a while. That hasn’t stopped other schools from coming after him hard.

It’s not a secret as to why schools like Alabama and Ole Miss are turning up the heat for Notre Dame football regarding Deuce Knight. He’s got a cannon for an arm, he’s elusive and deadly on the ground and he’s good a very good head on his shoulders.

However, Knight is also still very much a work in progress. Notre Dame football analyst Kevin Sinclair recently appeared on the LockedOnIrish podcast to detail just where the quarterback might need some improvement.

Sinclair started out by saying that Knight is both helped and hindered a bit with the weapons he has around him at George County High. Most of the receivers that Knight is throwing to tend to be more of a slot receiver. The 4-star quarterback doesn’t really have any tall lanky possession receivers he can dump the ball off to in a pinch.

While the stud quarterback doesn’t have that possession type receiver, those slot guys tend to be speedy and talented, so he’s not really missing out on weapons. However, that could be where the Alabama quarterback’s weakness comes into play.

“One thing I think with Deuce is he hangs on to the ball too long,” Fleming said while comparing Knight to the kind of monster offensive linemen you see in high school who can bully their opponents just with their size and strength.

“It's kind of similar with Deuce Knight where he can hang on to that ball and get outside the pocket and shake a tackle and really wait until he finds something he feels really good about and then launch that big deep ball,” Fleming added. “You can't do that in college football, you'll get sacked over and over again.”

The Notre Dame football recruiting expert went on to say that Knight is far from the only top quarterback you see that type of thing with. Lots of Top 100 players are able to simply “out talent” the opposition.

Things tend not to go great once they get to the next level, if they’re leaning on that too often. Fleming would like to see the Notre Dame football commit get out of the habit of leaning on simply being better than anyone else on the field.

As far as weaknesses go, that’s likely the best kind to have.
