The Notre Dame football team has a big even scheduled for this weekend and in the process, the Irish have plenty of targets on the agenda. However, it turns out that at least one prospect in offensive lineman Adam Guthrie is making a surprise visit.

Guthrie posted on social media early Saturday morning that he was in South Bend. This is his second trip to ND’s campus in less than two months and certainly bodes well for the squad getting yet another offensive line commit.

While he’s in town, the 6-foot-7, 280-pounder from Washington Court House (Ohio) Miami Trace will participate in tomorrow’s high school prospect camp called the Irish Invasion. It appears the visit was definitely a last minute change considering that Guthrie was not on the initial Irish Invasion roster.

According to the On3 Industry Ranking, Guthrie is the No. 188 overall player, No. 17 offensive tackle nationally and No. 6 prospect in Ohio. Rivals has him as the 232nd best player, the No. 25 player at his position and the No. 7 player in Ohio.

What’s clear among all the recruiting analysts is that he’s one of the better players in his home state and well worth the Fighting Irish trying to get him to commit. Back in April, his comments made it clear he might eventually join guys like Will Black and Owen Strebig as big time offensive line commits.

“Notre Dame would be really high on my list after leaving the campus,” Guthrie told Irish Breakdown back in April. “I’m excited to keep building the relationship.”

It looks like he is indeed continuing to build that relationship. One has to think he might be quite close to pulling the trigger for the Notre Dame football program. It wouldn’t be out of the question for that to happen this weekend.
