Notre Dame football fans may not like this Rams 3rd round NFL Draft pick

It’s a safe bet that Los Angeles Rams fans are quite happy with their team’s 3rd round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. However, Notre Dame football fans who were excited for a massive 2024 campaign for Kyren Williams might be a bit worried that the continued march down the comeback trail is halted.

At the absolute very least, Williams -who came out of nowhere to run for over 1,000 yards in 2023 - will see his role with the Rams change. It will almost certainly diminish now that Michigan Wolverines running back Blake Corum is joining the team.

As a Notre Dame football fan whose heart sank a bit with the 3rd round selection of Corum by the Rams, you certainly can’t blame the NFL team. Who wouldn’t want a guy who ran for more than 3,700 yards and 57 touchdowns in his college career? Who wouldn’t want a guy who ran for 45 touchdowns in the last two years alone?

However, as a Notre Dame football fan, I wanted to see what Kyren Williams would get to do as the unquestioned featured back in his third season. After all, this was a running back with 35 carries in 10 games in his rookie season for just 139 yards.

Williams exploded in his second NFL season. In just 12 games, he ran for 1,144 yards and 12 touchdowns. He also had three touchdowns in the Rams' final regular season game that clinched a playoff spot for the Rams.

It will certainly be interesting to see just how L.A. handles this particular running back split. Perhaps Williams will continue to be the featured back as Corum learns the NFL. Maybe they can team up and become a thunder and lighting type duo.

There’s also no irony lost in the Los Angeles Rams backfield now featuring a former Notre Dame football star and a former Michigan Wolverines star.
